ADLER, Harry
It is with deepest sorrow and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our great patriarch Harry (aka Herschel, Herman) Adler, on November 17, 2012, at the age of 81. After a truly valiant fight fueled by his immense inner strength and his eternal hunger for all that life encompasses, he lost his final battle.
Loving, devoted and adored husband of Leonie (nee Sybertz) for 59 years, a love that few are blessed enough to share. Proud father of Nancy, Perry (Anna), Robert (Cezarina). Cherished grandfather of Richard, Jason, Olivia, Benjamin and David. Predeceased by his parents, Helen and Samuel, his brothers Berka, Yidel and sister Esther. This kind and gentle man shall be greatly missed by countless friends made during a business career that spanned more than 60 years.
Despite suffering the horrors of bigotry and anti-Semitism that killed most of his family during the holocaust, Harry Adler was an unprejudiced man, judging people by their character and deeds, not race, religion, or culture. He remained an optimist, always looking forward, not dwelling on the past. His sense of humour was both quick-witted and groan-worthy. Yet his greatest quality was embracing his family with unconditional love and guidance.
A special thank you to the staff of the Royal Victoria Hospital’s CCU. The nurses, PABs, and physicians treated Harry with kindness and respect, showing appreciation for Harry’s humour and goodness. Special gratitude is felt for Drs. Genest, Denicourt, Cameron, and Haichin as well as for nurses Steve, Jonathan, Meghan, Megan, Jenelynn, and Colleen, as well as Nurse Amadou in the ICU. A special thanks also to Dr. Rudy Brenner for his professional and heartfelt care. A private funeral service was held at the request of the family.
